Mission

OUR MISSION

At Wilson’s Henhouse Advocacy, we believe Lakeside Park should be a welcoming and accessible community for all. We support a thoughtful ordinance that allows responsible backyard chicken keeping — creating opportunities for families, fostering sustainability, and providing meaningful benefits for autistic individuals who find comfort and routine in caring for animals.

This initiative is about more than chickens — it’s about making our city more compassionate for those with special needs, supporting young families, and strengthening the close-knit spirit that makes Lakeside Park such a wonderful place to live. Backyard chickens can bring neighbors together, encourage self-sufficiency, and add to the charm of our community.

No matter the outcome, we remain committed to working together, building connections, and ensuring Lakeside Park continues to be a place where everyone feels at home. Let’s create a solution that reflects the values of our residents and helps our community grow even stronger.

Petition

Our Petition

We are Jim and Beth Wilson, residents of Lakeside Park.  Our chicken adventure began by contacting our city clerk. She assured us that we were permitted to keep six chickens. Now we have raised chickens from the day they hatched in our family room until they were old enough to go outside.  In 2016, a new ordinance banning chickens was passed.  If you did not go to that council meeting or read the minutes, you would not be informed. Our pet chickens aren't just ordinary pets for us. They serve as emotional support animals, significantly helping my autistic daughter and myself to manage stress, anxiety, and depression. >>READ MORE & SIGN!<<
